Description:

Vilford-50 is an oral anti-diabetic medication containing Vildagliptin 50 mg, a Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor used for the management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. It works by enhancing the levels of incretin hormones, which increase insulin secretion and suppress glucagon release in a glucose-dependent mannerthereby helping to control blood sugar levels effectively.

Indications:

• Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM)

• As monotherapy or in combination with other oral antidiabetics (e.g., metformin, sulfonylureas)

Mechanism of Action:

Vildagliptin inhibits the enzyme DPP-4, which results in prolonged activity of incretin hormones (GLP-1 and GIP). These hormones help regulate glucose homeostasis by increasing insulin release from pancreatic -cells and decreasing glucagon levels from -cells, leading to reduced hepatic glucose production.
