Product Name: CILAST
Composition:
Each vial contains:
Imipenem USP 500 mg
Cilastatin USP 500 mg
Dosage Form: Sterile powder for injection (to be reconstituted)
CILAST is a broad-spectrum -lactam antibiotic injection containing Imipenem, a potent carbapenem antibiotic, and Cilastatin, a renal dehydropeptidase inhibitor. Cilastatin prevents the renal metabolism of Imipenem, ensuring effective therapeutic levels and enhancing its antibacterial activity.
CILAST is indicated for the treatment of a wide variety of serious bacterial infections, including:
Lower respiratory tract infections
Intra-abdominal infections
Urinary tract infections
Gynecological infections
Skin and soft tissue infections
Bone and joint infections
Septicemia
Endocarditis (caused by susceptible organisms)
Imipenem acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to cell death.
Cilastatin inhibits the renal enzyme dehydropeptidase-I, preventing Imipenem degradation in the kidneys and extending its antibacterial activity.
Ultra-broad spectrum active against Gram-positive, Gram-negative, and anaerobic bacteria
Enhanced efficacy with Cilastatin co-administration
Used in hospital-acquired and drug-resistant infections
Well tolerated with a proven safety profile in severe infections
Adults: 250 mg to 1 g every 6 to 8 hours IV, depending on the severity of infection
Maximum dose: Not to exceed 4 g/day of Imipenem
